DIPOLOG CITY -- Zamboanga City pulls the lead away, bagging 70 gold medals in the second day of the regional sports competition among members of the Private Schools Athletic Association (Prisaa) being held here.
Zamboanga City continues to harvest medals mostly in swimming, taekwondo, karate do, athletics and dancesports.
Prof. Elbert Atilano, Prisaa regional executive director, said athletes who gave their best in the oval and pool for Zamboanga City led the medal-haul during the first and second days of the competition.
Zamboanga City's track-and-field campaigners endured in the oval to wrest 12 gold medals, courtesy of Oscar Manzano, (100m, 200m, 400m), John Rey Bahayon (800m), and eight more in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.
Pagadian City grabbed eight of its golds, courtesy of Glenn Arellano (1,500m and 10,000m run), Charito Narciso (discuss throw, shot put, long jump), Esmael Ebrahim (javelin throw), Marisa Arcello (discuss throw, javelin throw, shot put).
Overall, partial results showed Pagadian coming in second place with a total of 26 golds, 45 silver medals, 10 bronze medals; followed by Dipolog with 10 golds, five silver, 14 bronze; and Isabela City with two golds, five silver, and six bronze.
So far, Zamboanga hauled 33 silver and 20 bronze medals.
Zamboanga's dancesport three couples took all the medals. Mark Alvarez and Verlyn Garciano took the charge by outdoing their rival dancers and taking the gold in Saturday's much-awaited dancesports competition held at the Saint Vincent College Auditorium.
Second placers Jonathan de Guia and dance partner Yves Raeza Napao of Ateneo de Zamboanga University took the silver while Jaime Marcial and Julie Ann Rojas of Universidad de Zamboanga danced their way to third place.
