Karate tourney set

THE Ken Zen Do Karate Federation, in coordination with the Zamboanga Karate Association and Sta. Barbara village chairman Abdulhamid Irin, is holding a one-day karate tournament in Zamboanga City.

The tournament, dubbed as the Inter-Barangay (district I) Invitational Friendship Games, is slated August 16 at the gymnasium of the Southern City Colleges.

Ken Zen Do Karate Federation president Haybi Iraji said eight villages from Zamboanga City's first congressional district are participating in the tournament.

The participating teams are from the villages of Zones I and 4, Baliwasan, Sta. Barbara, Campo Muslim, Canelar, Pasonanca, and Malagutay.

Iraji said a team from Basilan province will also see action in the one day tournament.

Iraji said the holding of the tournament is aimed to encourage the youths to engaged in sports activities like karate.
