Another look Underwater
By Stella A. Estremera

LAST Thursday, the City Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management Office (CFarmo) of the Island Garden City of Samal conducted a fish census off the waters of Samal Beach Park and the Paradise Island Beach Resort to check on the veracity of declaring the one fronting Paradise as a dive spot.

Divers from the local government and volunteers from the Aquamarine Protection and Preservation Alliance (Appa) laid transect lines and identified the species, both corals and fishes, and came up with what's obvious -- the portion fronting the Paradise Island is indeed still a lush marine environment. That's not so in the adjacent areas, although the other portions would still be a treat for divers who are into macro photography -- especially when the current is not that strong.

Indeed, with a little help from humans, a collective desire to allow some portions of our seascape to propagate undisturbed, everyone, including the fishes, will benefit.

In a world where marine resources are getting scarce, if not extinct, we badly need that cooperation.
