Y-Speak

Mann for every woman
By Aissa Ang/ Vagabond

A TOAST to Mann For Every Woman!

Cheers to the nascent Web-based clothing line of Isobel Francisco, Maetrix Ocon, and Dominique Tiu!

This Sunday's article is a celebration of (a) the trio's keen sense of entrepreneurship, (b) the personal dedication each of them pours into bringing out the best in the feminine form, and (c) the overall squeal-appeal of Mann For Every Woman's delectable dresses.

As the Italians say, "Buono!"

It's a pleasure to note that Mann couture is a sartorial epitome of savvy, substance, and sensuous singularity. Because each order is crafted according to the customer's desires and particular measurements, the dresses come out delightfully distinctive.

What more can any femme fatale ask for?

With Mann For Every Woman, the possibilities are limitless, and yet the idea unexpectedly sprung from one class requirement among many that Dominique Tiu (AB Information Design) needed to complete. Clever wordplay with her mother's maiden name resulted in the nifty brand, and the legendary Chinoy nose for business spurred her to engage roommates Maetrix Ocon (BS Psychology) and Isobel Francisco (AB Humanities) in what would become an outlet of tantalizing tailoring. Mann also proves that Ateneo's entrepreneurs need not always originate from the John Gokongwei School of Management.

The transformation of Dominique's brand development exercise into a real business with Trix and Iso is a boon to womankind. Together, they've formed a dream team heaven-sent to make frock fantasies come true. This Vagabond hastens to note that Mann's ‚lan emerges from a blend of local and foreign textiles in the skilful hands of Filipino tailors.

Nevertheless, I admit that the brand's essence is quite elusive to capture with mere words. The best I can do is to allude to author Anna H. Branch in writing that Mann couture is rather like donning "a web of loveliness of clouds and stars and birds".

As would be expected from being in tune with one's market, the brand's rising popularity with Internet and analog clients alike is generating interest in the media. Mann For Every Woman was showcased by "She Ka," a morning TV show on NBN on June 2, 2008. Trix and Iso were interviewed by Mademoiselles Isa and Pia, while models (and fellow Ateneans) Tala Wong and Aica Pascual sashayed on air with a sampling of the recent season's dresses. The Manila Bulletin also featured quite an extensive interview with Dominique in the article "Custom-made online!" by Ronaldo S. Lim.

Today, women of the world are better off with Mann For Every Woman -- couture that's chic, accessible, and custom-made. "Classic with a twist" is what Trix Ocon purrs to me over coffee. Iso Francisco flashes an enigmatic smile, and Domz Tiu simply radiates confidence in her brainchild.

Ah. Mann For Every Woman: sweet fruit from the tree of the union of taste, talent and tenacity.
