Thursday, August 21, 2008 Regional People's Hour slated
ENVIRONMENT Secretary Lito Atienza is set to launch the Regional People's Hour program for Western Visayas at the Social Hall of DepEd building in Iloilo City on Friday, August 22.
The launch of the People's Hour program here is the second in a series of regional launchings as part of the environment department’s continuing effort to provide the people with better access to the programs and other services of the department.
Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) regional executive director Lormelyn Claudio said the program, to be conducted once a week, hopes to bring the services of DENR closer to the people by conducting a no-holds barred dialogue primarily for the rural people, farmers and fisherfolks who wanted to express their concerns to the DENR attention.
Last August 1, Atienza launched the first Regional People's Hour at the Pangasinan State University in Lingayen, Pangasinan where he acted on several problems on land disputes which have caused several years of aggravation to claimants.
He also awarded more than 200 land patents to farmers from 20 municipalities of Pangasinan, covering some 77 hectares, under the department's Handog Titulo Program.
Atienza holds the "People's Hour" at the DENR central office in Diliman, Quezon City every Thursday, starting at 10 a.m. until noon.
A number of cases are brought to the attention of the Secretary Atienza by various individuals involving far and wide issues ranging on land ownership, upland disputes and mining.
Claudio said the People's Hour in Iloilo City will be conducted at 9 a.m. to 12 noon. (LCP)
