Monday, July 21, 2008 Taxi fare hike starts on August By Jay Dooma Balnig
LAND Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Director Porferio Clavel said recently that the additional P10 hike in taxi fare is effective August 1.
LTFRB made the clarification in line with reports that some drivers are allegedly allowed to ask an additional P10 as tip from passengers while additional fare could not be implemented yet.
This has caused confusion among commuters and even taxi drivers, and LTFRB has seen the need to clarify the issue.
According to Clavel, taxis with authorized LTFRB stickers are the only ones allowed to ask for an additional P10 from passengers starting August 1.
LTFRB will provide drivers with stickers duly signed by the board's chairman.
Earlier, LTFRB announced that the fare hike will take effect in the middle of August but later rescheduled its implementation to July 24 only to change it again to August 1.
Clavel said the latest schedule is final.
Clavel warns taxi drivers who are demanding this early an additional P10 from their passengers that this is prohibited and they could be penalized if caught.
