Thursday, December 04, 2008 DTI expects lesser biz name registrations
THE chief of the investment promotion division of the National Economic Research and Business Assistance Center (Nerbac) said the number of business name registrations with the unit is expected to decrease next year.
Nerbac is a special unit of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Southern Mindanao.
"DTI 11 (Southern Mindanao) will no longer accept applications for corporations and for partnerships; we will only accept applications for single proprietorship," Edwin Banquerigo, division chief of the Nerbac's investment promotion, told Sun.Star Wednesday.
He said that DTI has recently received an Executive Order (EO) saying that business name registrations for corporations and partnerships will be applied to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) starting next year.
Banquerigo, however, claimed that for this year, DTI-Nerbac expects to hit its target number of business name registrations of 6,000 for both renewal and new business registrations.
"We expect to achieve the target this year because we cater to an average of 500 to 600 business name registrations every month," he said.
Banquerigo asserted that the major accomplishments of the DTI-Nerbac is the conduct of the Mindanao Investment Conference, in which DTI is one of the organizers; the completion of a manual, a guide to doing business in Davao; and the capability to build investment divisions of selected local government units (LGUs) in the region, which aims to develop the capacity of LGU officers in handling promotional activities in their respective localities.
