Duterte to Cagas: Don't quit RPOC post

DAVAO City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte appealed to Davao del Sur Governor Douglas Ra. Cagas not to quit his post as Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) chair just because of financial constraints.

In his television program "Gikan sa Masa, Para sa Masa" Sunday, Duterte said RPOC has a budget contrary to Cagas's claim. He said what Cagas should do is confer with no less than President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo for the budget.

"All you have to do is submit to the President a program of work. May pera diyan, imposible wala (There is money there)," Duterte said.

The mayor made the advice after Cagas was quoted on television saying he does not want the RPOC leadership after learning there is no budget for it. Cagas was supposed to have assumed the post last July 1.

Duterte said Cagas is needed in the post as the National government's front man who ensures that peace and order is stable in the region.

Duterte resigned from the RPOC post last year when he was implicated in the death of broadcaster Fernando Lintuan. It was only this month that the RPOC was finally occupied. (BOT)
