Friday, July 13, 2007 Rainy season a blessing: DA official By Carlo P. Mallo
THE Department of Agriculture (DA) said the rainy season is more of a blessing than a problem as it assured the public that there is more than enough food supply in the country.
DA Undersecretary Bernie Fondevilla said the country is enjoying a stable food supply. Apart from rice, the supply of corn in the country is also stable and is even higher compared to last year.
"The rains will bring in more yield for our crops, it will address the problem of shortage of rain in some areas in the country," Fondevilla said last Wednesday. "We are prepared for the rainy season."
"We have already deployed quick response teams to address any eventuality," Fondevilla added.
He said the DA has already prepared the food supply in the country to be stable despite the onset of the rainy and typhoon season of the country.
The onset of the rainy season has already caused damages to the crops of over 60 farmers in Barangay Tamugan in the city.
Tamugan has been placed by the City Council under the state of calamity after it suffered from landslides.
