Father, son injured in fight to foil burglary

A FATHER and his son were injured after they fought a burglar who tried to run away with their money at dawn Saturday.

Vicente Pabroa Sr., 42, suffered stab wounds in his back, left armpit, left arm, right leg and left knee while his son, Vicente Jr., was injured in the right foot.
The two struggled to disarm Ricky Labajo Dacuyan, 24.

Dacuyan broke into the Pabroas’ house in Sitio Luray I, Barangay Poblacion, Toledo City after destroying the bamboo shingles leading to their kitchen.

Bag

The suspect managed to grab hold of a black bag containing P1,280 cash placed on top of the family’s altar. But Vicente Sr. and his wife Angelina were awakened by the noise, leading to the scuffle.

During the scuffle, Dacuyan pulled out a 12-inch knife and stabbed Vicente Sr.

At this, the couple’s three children woke up, prompting Vicente Jr. to help his father and in the process “deformed” his right foot.

The Pabroas managed to subdue Dacuyan and turned him over to PO3 Lorenzo Gutang and PO1 Dante Hilo, who responded to the call for help.

Since Dacuyan, Vicente Sr. and Vicente Jr. were injured, they were all taken to the Toledo City District Hospital for treatment.

Hilo told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday that the doctor advised Vicente Jr. to have his foot checked in a Cebu City hospital.

Hilo said Dacuyan took advantage of the rain in getting inside the Pabroas’ home.

He said they received many inquiries on Dacuyan from people whose homes were burglarized.

The police are expecting other complainants to visit and look at the suspect.

Detained

While the Pabroas suffered graver injuries, Dacuyan only had bruises and is now detained at the Toledo City Police Station.

Hilo said the money Dacuyan tried to take was what the family earned the day before.

Angelina, he said, would usually get up at dawn to buy supplies for their store in the city. (MEA)
