Daughter, 14, accuses own father of rape

CARCAR police detained a 53-year-old man after his wife accused him of raping their 14-year-old daughter last Friday, while the wife was out working.

Dita, 51, sought the Carcar City Police Station’s help after hearing about the alleged assault from their daughter Sheila. (Dita and Sheila are not their real names.)

Sheila was asleep at 9 p.m. when her father allegedly raped her inside their home in Barangay Guadalupe, Carcar.

He attacked her again at dawn, the police report said. No information was available on what the couple’s nine other children did during the alleged assault.

Dita was away from home because she worked as a stay-in helper for another family in Carcar. Her husband harvested and sold tuba for a living.

Sheila overcame her fear and told her mother about what happened, which led them to the Women’s Desk at the Carcar City Police Station.

Pink Room

Police arrested the father last Saturday, while his daughter was brought to the Pink Room at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City for a medical examination.

A complaint of rape in relation to Republic Act 7610 is being prepared and may be filed today against the father. Under the law, anyone found guilty of this offense faces 12 to 40 years in jail, among other penalties. (From FVQ of Super-balita)
