Brothers accuse tanod of killing parents
THE night before a couple was to sue their barangay officials, a tanod member allegedly arrived at their home and shot them.
Arnulfo and Ariel Gulayan, of Barangay Mercedes, Poro town, accused barangay tanod Roger Deloy of murdering their parents on the night of June 9. Their parents, Enarciso and Nazarita, had planned on filing an administrative complaint against Deloy and six other barangay officials the following day.
According to the brothers’ affidavit, the Gulayan family was set to go to the Office of the Ombudsman-Visayas in Cebu City on June 10 to sue Barangay Captain Romarito Lucernas, and Barangay Councilors Armando Pineda, Alexon Robledo and Deogracias Loon.
Deloy and two other tanods, Arturo Costan and Celso Calesa, would have been included in the complaint, too.
In their joint affidavit, the Gulayan sons said the conflict stemmed from a squabble over a neighbor’s stolen goat early this year. The goat belonged to Melinda Mendez, Santa Canizer and Elly Miao.
Arnulfo was imprisoned for four and a half months this year for stealing the goat, although he insisted on his innocence.
He was released from the Poro Municipal Jail last June 6 because the complainants had issued a waiver of desistance from filing charges.
However, his mother Nazarita wanted to file a case against the barangay officials saying they were the ones who “falsely accused” Arnulfo in the first place.
But the brothers said they never got to file the administrative complaint before the anti-graft court because on the night of June 9, Deloy allegedly murdered their parents.
The brothers said the family was at home, hanging out and talking at the nipa hut in their backyard when Deloy suddenly appeared.
Deloy reportedly shot Nazarita, hitting her abdomen, left thigh and left arm.
Enarciso embraced Nazarita as she struggled to stand up, but Deloy reportedly shot him, too.
Arnulfo and Ariel’s parents were rushed to Ricardo Maningo Memorial District Hospital in San Francisco town where Enarciso was pronounced dead.
Nazarita, on the other hand, was transferred to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center. She died the following day.
The sons filed a complaint for double murder against Deloy last Friday before the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor. (KAB)
