Become a nurse in a year
It’s never too late to become a nurse.
This is what the College of Technological Sciences (CTS) wants people, who have realized just now their inclination for the nursing profession, to know.
CTS will begin to offer this school year the Certified Practical Nurse (CPN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN), as they are called in the United States.
The CPN diploma can be earned after only 12-15 months of studies.
CTS president and chief executive officer Jose Mari Bigornia said the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) has accredited the school’s CPN course.
“CPNs care for the sick, injured, convalescent and disabled under the direction of physicians and registered nurses. They provide basic care, taking vital signs, temperature, blood pressure and pulse, and assist in bathing patients... and applying dressings,” he said on the sidelines of a press conference to announce the nursing accreditation granted by the Commission on Higher Education to four nursing schools in Region 7.
The newly accredited nursing schools are CTS, Colegio de San Antonio de Padua, Foundation University and Salazar Institute of Technology.
Bigornia said the objective of the course is for the graduate to qualify to take the US National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (Nclex-PN). Passing the Nclex-PN will give the graduate the title of licensed practical nurse, which guarantees employment in health care facilities in the US.
Applicants to the CPN course should have undergone at least two years of college studies. (JBN)
