COUNCILOR Galo Weygan is contesting plans of using the Diplomat Hotel as a museum, stressing the building is supposed to be a place to meditate and pray.
Located atop Dominican Hill overlooking practically the whole Baguio, Weygan called the hill where the building stands as a "prayer mountain."
Since 2001, Weygan has worked for the "award" of the property from the Ministry of Human Settlements (MHS) to the City Government.
But with recent developments where the Baguio Historical Museum Foundation Incorporated eyed the area as site for a museum, Weygan said "the will of God has to be followed."
In his letter to Mayor Reinaldo Bautista Jr., Vice Mayor Daniel Fariñas and members of the City Council, Weygan said "(God) wants this city to become a spiritual city. As administrators and legislators, this place is really fitting as a spiritual development center and also as a tourism center."
Weygan warned any diversion of what was planned as he envisioned, will be punished. "God wants this place to be a prayer center for Baguio, the Philippines and people of other countries in the world. Anyone who tries to thwart or go against this purpose will be (held) accountable before God." (RO)
