By Stephanie Bayle

Sixty-six agencies and companies, 41 from local and 25 from abroad came hoping to hire new employees.

The jobs fair was briefly interrupted for its official opening. Father Winston Cabahug (SVD) led the opening prayer and Dorothy Dacumos for the singing of the national anthem.

After Councilor Nicasio Palaganas delivered his welcome remarks, Mayor Reinaldo Bautista Jr. was called to give his inspirational message.

Bautista boasted of the 0.6 percent increase in the employment rate of the city.

According to him, last year's 94.6 percent went up to 95.2 percent. As a part of his message he said Baguio is unique when commemorating Labor Day.

"In other places workers fight for wage increases through rallies while in Baguio, it is peaceful and orderly and jobs are flowing," the mayor claimed.

After the mayor's message, Labor Regional Director Ana Dione introduced the Employment Kiosk or the Greater Modular Access (GMA) terminal. As a demonstration of the GMA, Bautista pretended to apply for a job after the demonstration the memorandum of agreement (MOA) was signed. It was also announced the kiosk will be placed at City Hall.

The acknowledgement of the participating agencies and outfits was led by Public Employment Service Office (Peso) manager Juvy Ballug.

After the opening, employers from various agencies and job seekers went back to their business.

The job fair entitled "I-angat ang Manggagawang Pinoy" was organized by the local government through Peso and the participation of local and private sectors.
