Monico Golden Gloves pugs post wins

BOXERS carrying the colors of the Monico Golden Gloves posted contrasting fortunes in the ongoing 2008 Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines (Abap) National Open, Youth & Women's Boxing Championship at the Robinson's mall in Iloilo City.

As of late Wednesday, reports from Negros Amateur Boxing Association (Naba) commissioner Nonoy Quiachon indicated Genesis Servania defeated Bago City's Argie Arnejan (51 kilograms); Ge4son Nietes defeated Daryl Basadre of Mizamis Oriental (46 kilograms); Eljean Hermedalia defeated Arman Baldado of Zamboanga City (28 kilograms) while Arnulfo Toralbat lost to Eugene Ladeza of Tagbilaran (33 kilograms) and Ruzel Orcada lost to Reynaldo Flores of Bago (29 kilograms).

Also reported to have posted wins were Reynalyn Jacob (57 kilograms); Herme An Lizades (48 kilograms) and Mark John Melligen.

Also posting initial wins were Manila-based Negrenses Albert Pabila and Lyven Salazar of Philippine Air Force, while Philippine Army's Joan Tipon and Junel Cantancio of PAF were slated to fight late Wednesday.

Monico Golden Gloves tournament committee chairman Monico 'Nicky' Puentevella Jr. said the participation of the Bacolod boxers in the national Abap event is meant to provide them more exposure to top level competition as part of the Golden Gloves amateur boxing development program.
