Thursday, May 08, 2008 Midwives complete 13-day child illness management training
FIFTEEN midwives from the 15 barangays of Moises Padilla town, including three from the adjoining town of La Castellana, finished in 10 days the supposed 13-day Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (Imci) on-the-job training conducted by the Provincial Health Office (PHO) in the locality recently.
Mayor Francisco Nazareno and Councilor Dolly Yasa, chair of the Municipal Council committee on health, distributed the certificates to the midwives in the presence of training facilitators from the PHO, namely: Rosa Amar, Genevieve Basa and Eva Tajanlangit.
The Imci training is a program of the Department of Health (DOH) in cooperation with the PHO and in coordination with local government unit (LGU). It aims to equip midwives with the knowledge of dealing with childhood illness, especially those located in far-flung barangays.
"Its main objective is to reduce mortality and morbidity among children age one week old to five years old," said Dr. Edmundo Janeo, Moises Padilla municipal health officer.
Nazareno and Yasa congratulated the midwives and urged them to apply what they have learned from the training to save the lives of young children in their respective barangays.
