WNU vs. USLS, UNOR-Cegasco vs. CSAB-JPV in NBA Wednesday

NEGRENSE cage fans, who have been following the off-season conquests of their favorite Nopsscea collegiate teams, are expected to troop to the Po Hang Gym of Bacolod Tay Tung High School on Wednesday when the ongoing Negros Basketball Association (NBA) Mayor's Cup tournament resumes with a two-game schedule.

"I'm sure the fans will like tomorrow's (Wednesday) games because it will remind them of the Nopsscea rivalry among these teams and they will enjoy it more because of the reinforcements," said NBA president Oscar 'Dodong' Bascon.

The West Negros University Mustangs, the reigning Nopsscea champions who are gunning for their sixth win in as many outings, hope to further strengthen their hold of the top slot in the eight-team standings when they take on University of St. La Salle in the first game at 6 p.m.

This will be followed by the clash between the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos/Cegasco Rams and the Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod/JPV Eagles at 7:45 p.m., said tournament commissioner Bobby Tee.

Saturday's last elimination round schedule pits NOBC/Tough Trucks/BUS Group against USLS at 2 p.m.; Province of Negros Occidental vs Marwin Pawnshop at 3:45 p.m.; and CSA-B/JPV vs Coverdale Beach Resort and Pension House at 5:30 p.m.

The quarterfinal round reels off on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. between the No.4 and No. 5 teams followed at 4:15 p.m. by the clash between the No. 3 and No. 6 squads.

The NBA Mayor's Cup Summer Tournament is the centerpiece annual competition of the association through the years.

"It has produced the likes of PBA standouts Boyet Fernandez, Noli Locsin, Wilmer Ong, Mike Mustre and many others," said NBA treasurer and sports patron Vic Tan.

The semi-finals is scheduled on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. (Henry Villalva)
