Cebu
- A Place For All Seasons
By Joyce Garcia Dizon
As
a Cebuana student in Manila in the early 1970s, I loved
to talk about what I regarded. as my precious province
- Cebu. I would describe to my mesmerized peers its
lovely capital city which is within easy access of beautiful
beaches and majestic mountains. I would enjoy portraying
in so many words the Cebuana's lively yet sedate lifestyle,
in a bucolic yet cosmopolitan setting. Often I encountered
difficulty explaining that Cebu was not the typical,
time-stand-still 'probinsiya'. Oftentimes I wished that
there had been an informative pictorial book to depict
Cebu more aptly.

Years
later, when Cebu's growth pace had accelerated and thousands
were visiting Cebu, I again felt the need for a handy, informative
and colorful book on Cebu.
This book
was written first and foremost, out of love for Cebu, rather
than love for writing. It took years to complete because somehow,
the initial manuscripts were overran by continuing new developments
and events in Cebu. It is my hope that this book's readers
will view their 'Cebu experience' not only as a flash in their
memories, but a memorable part of their lives.
