Mayor: Firecracker ban still holds

THE firecracker ban still holds, according to Davao City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte.

"Sama sa gihapon, gusto ta og linaw nga pasko, balaod na ni nga bawal ang mga pabuto og kinahanglan sundon (As usual, we want a peaceful Christmas, the firecracker ban in the city is already a law that needs to be obeyed)," Duterte said.

"Gii-implementar man gani sa una ang firecracker ban sa dili pa to balaod, unsa pa kaha ron (The firecracker ban was already implemented before, how much more now that it is already a city ordinance?)" he the mayor said.

As a result of the implementation of the firecracker ban in the city three years ago, there were no longer "bloody christmases" and the city enjoyed an almost-zero incidence of firecracker-related accidents.

Last year, only a boy from the Island Garden City of Samal was admitted to the Davao Medical Center for minor injuries when a "triangle" exploded in his hands.

Aside from that, there were no other reported incidents. (RCB)
