Networking products seller ties up with GoldTelecomm

CEBU -- The mushrooming of many electronic services outsourcing companies in Cebu has prompted an authorized distributor of networking products to aggressively penetrate the Cebu market.

According to Software and Engineering Data Systems Inc. (S&E) general manager Edel Ortiz, the Manila-based company aims to penetrate at least 60 percent of Cebu's information technology (IT) for networking market.

Department of Trade and Industry-Cebu Provincial Office Director Nelia Navarro had earlier said Cebu has begun to find its niche in the IT market with the location of many electronic services outsourcing jobs such as call centers, and another potential area, medical transcription services.

Ortiz told a press conference at Cebu City Marriott Hotel last week that 10 to 15 percent or $10 million of the country's $112 million total IT spending for networking last year came from Cebu.

"This is why we are now aggressively marketing our products beginning this year in the area," Ortiz said.

S&E has partnered with Cebu-based GoldTelecomm Specialist Inc. (GSI) to become its system or infrastructure integrator in the area.

Ortiz said S&E is also on the lookout for an office space to rent to be able to fully establish its presence in Cebu.

S&E is a distributor of United-States based SMC Networks products and services, a producer of quality local area network (LAN) solutions at a low cost of ownership, SMC Asia Pacific sales division 2 vice president Wesley Chua said.

SMC's product line includes wireless networking technologies, gigabit Ethernet, broadband access and routing technologies, as well as products for corporate environments such as stackable and chassis switches, he said. JBN
