SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union -- Members of the Regional Mobile Group 1 (RMG1) every now and then lay down their long firearms, grab the ball, and try to out-shoot each other at the basketball court.

RMG 1 Group Director Alejandro Valerio Jr. said the RMG 1 is in the middle of a basketball tournament aimed to promote camaraderie and sportsmanship among the RMG1 personnel.

“With RMG being a maneuver unit, this activity is highly beneficial to our personnel. It not only help maintain their physical fitness and keep it on tip-top level, more importantly it serves to foster closer ties, esprit de corps and sportsmanship among them,” Valerio stated.

The RMG1 personnel camped at Camp Brigadier General Oscar Florendo (Region 1 Philippine National Police (PNP) headquarters) were divided into five teams.

Valerio said three teams were formed from the Alert Platoons, one from the Office Personnel, and one from the RMG1 Special Operations Unit.

“We are happy that despite our meager resources we are able make this 1st RMG1 Basketball Tournament into a reality,” he stated.

The tournament started on August 10, the championship game is scheduled on September 2.

RMG1 Deputy Director Rhode Espero said the tournament would go on a single round robin elimination. The special awards are Most Valuable Player, Sportsmanship Award, Top Scorer, Darling of the Crowd, Rebound King, Tapal King, Best in Steals, Best in Assist, and Best in 3-Point Shot. (LCMY/Sunnex)
