Students win national food showdown


LAST September 4 and 5, 2009, an impressive lineup of participants coming from various establishments representing schools, restaurants and hotels from Metro Manila and the other regions of the country converged at A. Avenue Events Hall, Makati City for the biggest, most prestigious and only national culinary competition -- The National Food Showdown 2009.

The University of Regina Carmeli in Malolos City bested other schools as Angelo Paulo Yamanaka, a BSHM fourth year college student got the bronze medal for being the best in the Cocktail Mixing event where none among the thirty-seven participating schools’ representatives was awarded the gold and silver medals.

Equally admirable was the team duo of Paul Jordan Caguinguin and Daryl Pingol as they were adjudged the second best in the Table Setting Category,

The two-day competition which had for its theme "The Making of World Class Chefs" also included equally exciting competitions such as Cuisine Rapide, Wedding Cake decoration, Petits Fours, Cold Buffet Display among others.

The 37 participating schools were Arellano University, Manila, Bulacan State University (Bustos and Malolos), Colegio de San Lorenzo, De La Salle College of Saint Benilde, De La Salle University (Dasmariñas), Divine Mercy College, Enderun Colleges, Future Culinary Arts, First Asia Institute Of Technology and Humanities, Global Culinary & Hospitality Academy, Holy Angel University, Imus Institute, Jose Rizal University, La Consolacion College-Manila, Lyceum of the Philippines (Batangas and Laguna), Magsaysay Institute of Hospitality and Culinary Arts, Mapua Institute of Technology (Makati campus), OB Montessori, Our Lady of Fatima University (Valenzuela), Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasig, Phil. Women’s University, Polytechnic University of the Phils., St. Anne College Lucena Inc., St. Therese – MTC Colleges (Iloilo), St. Paul University (Manila and Quezon City), System Technology Institute (Cubao, Balagtas and Pasay), Trinity University of Asia, University of Perpetual Help System, University of the Philippines, University of Sto.
