Muslim group lauds Oplan Habitat

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- An official of the Muslim Federation of this city admitted Friday that the results -- order, discipline, cleanliness, and peace -- of Oplan Habitat brought to folks here are laudable.

The newly formed Muslim group, who once led a peaceful rally to appeal to City Government officials to spare their sidewalk vending spaces three months ago, said Oplan Habitat has justified its vision of making the city a habitat for human excellence.

According to federation vice-president Salam Ampuan, their group has given its nod for the current moves of Task Force Habitat in improving and fencing the sidewalks, implementing the anti-littering campaign and jaywalking rules.

“It’s nice. It is orderly and clean. We at the Muslim Federation are one with the mayor in its further implementation,” Ampuan told Sun.Star.

He clarified though that they are still waiting for the City Government to address their concerns for a location where their fellow Muslims displaced by the move would be transferred.

“We will wait. We were already able to talk to City Administrator Fer Caylao and we were told it is now being worked out,” he said.

He reiterated that the group’s objective is for the general welfare of all vendors in the city and not just for Muslims alone.

He added that under Islam, which calls for them to unite, their grievances and concerns, they would stick to their most peaceful means in airing them.
