ASIANS continue to shine on the world sporting stage following the spectacular performance on Thursday of Japan's Hideki Matsui in the World Series in New York City.

Matsui, in his seventh season as a Yankee, starred in the title-clinching 7-3 victory of New York that dethroned the Philadelphia Phillies in six games.

Just a while back, Y.E. Yang of Korea won the PGA crown, humbling world No. 1 Tiger Woods no less to become the first Asian to clinch the last of golf's four majors staked annually.

Before Yang, Se Ri Pak, Yang's female compatriot, put the Asian on the world golf map with breakthrough victories in the LPGA.

And now it's the turn of Matsui, a one-time MVP in Japan for the fabled Yomiuri Giants.

Matsui homered and drove in six runs to tie a World Series record in powering the Yankees to their first title since 2000 and 27th overall WS crown.

Six R.B.I. and New York had a total of 7 runs.

That's like seeing Manny Pacquiao beating Miguel Cotto black and blue for 11 rounds and then Pacman does an Ali rope-a-dope in the 12th out of pity for Cotto.

What made Matsui's feat doubly incredible was he blasted his second-inning, two-run homerun on a full count. Next, after four pitches - three for balls - he ripped a double for two more RBIs that put New York to an imposing 7-1 margin in the fifth.

Stunningly amazing?

And, for the World Series, Matsui was 8-of-13 for .615 at the plate; he also homered a total of three times and had 8 R.B.I.

Of course, he was the runaway series MVP and if there was a higher award than that, why not make him US president for a whole week.

For sure, that would put smiles on the faces of health-care protesters now battling Obama's radical medi-care measures.

Matsui himself needs to smile a lot long after the celebration is over or he could go crazy.

Matsui suffers from a ravaged knee that threatens to end his contract with the Yankees this year.

Will somebody please bring Matsui to Pacquiao?

Perfect as the Pacman's slugging consultant.

I'm not kidding.

Knowing Pacquiao, his marshmallow heart might yet clinch it for Matsui.

They are both Asians, anyway.

Birds of the same feather, fight together.
