City's new voters prefer Aquino

ANGELES CITY -- A pre-poll survey conducted on newly registered voters from the 33 barangays here indicated that they prefer to vote for Senator Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III for president.

A source said the four-day survey conducted between October 28 to 31 by AB Communication students of Holy Angel University on newly registered voters in Angeles City indicated that Aquino, son of the late President Cory Aquino and Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr., is the choice of 323 out of the 760 respondents.

The survey, according to the source, was a school requirement and was not commissioned by anybody.

In the survey, Aquino was followed by Senators Manny Villar with 222, Chiz Escudero (133), Gilbert Teodoro (38), and former President Joseph Estrada (24).

Among the candidates for Pampanga's First Congressional District, Gepoy Nepomuceno is preferred by 351 newly registered voters, followed by incumbent Representative Carmelo Lazatin, with 260. Councilor Ares Yabut, who earlier announced his intention to run for congressman, landed on the third slot with a mere 120.

Gepoy has not announced his plans for the upcoming 2010 elections but had been visible among consultations and affairs with sectoral groups. He recently accepted the Best LGU Award from President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Among the mayoral bets here, incumbent Mayor Francis "Blueboy" Nepomuceno is still the man to beat in the political arena of this city. Nepomuceno garnered 488, followed by Balibago village chief Tony Mamac with 156. Secretary Edgardo Pamintuan of the Subic Clark Alliance for Development Council landed on the third slot with 116.

The respondents, according to the source, were asked this simple question: Kung ngayon ang eleksyon, sinong iboboto mong presidente, congressman, at mayor?

For his part, Nepomuceno said the new voters must have noted that his administration's fiscal management of the City Government improved while projects that do not previously generate income for the city coffer, such as the Angeles City slaughterhouse and the San Nicolas Public Market, are now being utilized to their full potentials.

He said his administration has also extended affordable housing program for Angeleños and scholarships to poor but deserving students.
