THE National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCAA) has conducted a two-day online journalism writeshop in Dumaguete City Monday.
Prof. Alex Maaliw, who is a journalism professor in the Manila-based University of the East (UE) and Miriam College, introduced online packaging of culture news and feature stories during the event, which was held at STI Computer School.

After the short lecture, Maaliw instructed the participants to write stories on culture and the arts of Dumaguete City and Negros Oriental in a feature and straight news format.
Maaliw also led the presentation and critique of the workshop outputs after lunch break.
He then led the evaluation of the workshop after the finalization and production of the outputs.
The workshop was attended by at least 20 participants from the school of journalism in Foundation University (FU), Negros Oriental State University (Norsu), Dumaguete Science High School, and some media practitioners led by Negros Chronicle publisher Ely Dejaresco.
Dejaresco said writing a story on culture and the arts is alternative to crime and politics stories.
Prof. Janice Foster of the Computer Center in Silliman University is scheduled to introduce web writing for cultural content as part of the workshop Tuesday. It will be followed by web page and layout design.
Participants of the activity will receive certificates of participation. (VLC)
