AFTER their failed bids in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi), the University of Cebu Webmasters and the University of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars will try to advance to the national stage of the Philippine Collegiate Champions League 2009 in the zonal tournament this weekend at the Cebu Coliseum.

It will not be an easy task for the Cebuano teams as they are pitted against tough teams.

Also vying for the wildcard slots are UAAP fifth placer, Adamson University Falcons and the champions of the Naasco, the San Sebastian College-Cavite Baycats.

The teams hope to snag the two tickets to the Round of Sweet 16 of the PCCL, which will be on Nov. 23 at the Ynares Gym in Pasig.

Cesafi champions University of the Visayas Green Lancers are already seeded into the Round of Sweet 16, while another Cebu team, the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors also fights for another slot in the zonals A in Bacolod City.

USC will play NCAA fifth placer Arellano University, Mindanao champion Holy Trinity College Wildcats of General Santos City and the host team WNU Mustangs.

There are three other zonal eliminations held all over the country—North Central Luzon A, North Central Luzon B and the South Luzon Bicol Zonals—all staking slots to the Sweet 16 round of the competitions.
