THE contingent from Surigao del Norte was the big winner in Sunday’s Mantawi Festival, grabbing the grand prizes for the street dancing competition and ritual showdown as well as three special awards.
In all, the Surigao group earned P460,000 in prize money as it also took the best in musicality, best in costume and best in andas awards.
The participants from the municipality of Consolacion, Cebu placed second in the ritual showdown and third in street dancing. It also won best in choreography for its Sarok festival performance.

The Cebu media was not spared the antics of the former Chicago Bulls star forward Dennis Rodman, who snubbed a press conference during his arrival yesterday at the Mandaue City Hall.
After being mobbed by a throng of supporters at the airport and at the Mandaue City Hall, Rodman and the rest of the “Touring Bad Boy” entourage met Mayor Thadeo Ouano.
Mandaue city has always been the convergence spot for trade, even before the coming of the Spaniards. During the Spanish era, the first drydocking facility was established in what is now called Barangay Tipolo. Read the rest of this entry »

The MLSDF-Mantawi Traders gave West Negros College-Talisay City a rude welcome with a record-setting 82-55 win for its second win in four games in the Mindanao Visayas Basketball Association (MVBA) First Conference at the Mandaue City Sports Complex Friday night.
Many records were set by the Traders in the win, including limiting the visiting Mustangs to only two points in the first quarter.
THE Mandaue City Hall grounds is now in a festive mood, with various stalls being set up to replicate the city’s pre-colonial reputation as a merchant’s paradise. Read the rest of this entry »
