Vinluan: Rehabilitation action response

WHAT most organizations do now to help our affected kababayans from the wrath and devastation of typhoons "Ondoy" and "Pepeng" not to mention "Ramil" is timely to augment survival supplements and materials, which are now needed.

Surveys will show typhoon "Ondoy" alone brought a month's rainfall to Metro Manila and nearby areas causing severe flooding, displacement of families, and resulted to deaths in just a few hours.

Further strengthened by typhoon "Pepeng" the affected families numbered to some 2 million residents around Laguna Lake alone, where 2.2 million residents live in districts, which would stay flooded for three months.

Baguio City alone had severe catastrophic landslides burying bodies, destroying property, and affecting lives of families.

Following identified areas of the typhoon calamity stricken areas with alarming rates of death and destruction, these became a national concern; preparations for prevention, action and response have brought the nation in a collaborative action.

Just like the "squared circle" would dictate to stakeholders, the action taken in response to these devastations entails the collaboration and cooperation of every Filipino.

Generally, communities and families affected are still in trauma. Anent the psychological effects which the situation has left, families are still trying to salvage things from what is left of their houses, children have apprehensions of going to school, people thrive to live a natural life but burdened with the psychological effects of how and what to do to eke out a living in these times.

The fact that the whole country was affected by the catastrophic effects of the calamities, there is a need to further take steps to help victims recovery physically and psychologically, to debrief the people from the trauma which has brought them pain and destruction.

It may take time before people can recover from this difficult situation.
