THE Land Transportation Office (LTO) said Tuesday the voluntary tagging of the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) would start November 4, and would run until the end of this year.
According to LTO Bacolod the voluntary tagging period is designed to allow drivers and operators of private or public vehicles to think about the project.

By January 1, 2010, RFID would be imposed “mandatorily”; thus all cars and vehicles will be tagged whether the owners/operators like it or not.
LTO reiterated that the project was not made without the knowledge of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, contrary to what the National Economic and Development Authority (Neda) had claimed previously.
The RFID tag costs P350, which would cover a validity time of 10 years; or at P35 a year.
LTO Bacolod chief Norman Saril had previously said cars and vehicles will not be allowed to go on emission testing without the RFID tag, thus, tagging of an RFID in every vehicle is a must. (Jerson O. Coronica)
